Week 11: First week with Teachable Machine!

  Hello!

This past week, we have been doing initial tests on Goolg'es Teachable Machine. It's been going great and looks promising when we eventually transition to using Microsoft Azure. Here are our test results.:

Methodology:

-Upload initial photos to teach the algorithm characteristics of each class.

-Exclude at least two colonies of the same class to determine if the algorithm can identify bacteria

-Accuracy is indicated in % of confidence. The higher the percentage, the more confident the algorism is in classification.

Conclusion:
As you can see, close-up photos are unreliable as the two types of bacteria look too similar internally. Still, the full colony structure is easier for the algorithm to see distinct characteristics. Additionally, as the microscope can pick up various depths in the bacteria, the close-up will differ in accuracy depending on who takes the photo and what photos were used to initially teach the machine. Therefore, full colony photos work best for taking pictures, teaching the algorithm, and determining class. This issue was seen in our results for gram-negative bacilli as well.
