Week 8: Project Background

 Hello everyone,

Here is a snippet of my project background:

In a review by Morgan et al. it describes the novel robotics research currently implemented in healthcare today. This analysis revealed that robots have fulfilled 10 primary functions within diverse clinical settings. Among these, the most prevalent roles were in surgical procedures, rehabilitation, and mobility assistance. While the majority of studies focused on robots' utilization in surgical theaters and rehabilitation facilities, their applications extended to a spectrum of other contexts, spanning from hospital wards to inpatient pharmacies (Morgan, et al., 2022). In a review of assistive robotics specifically, a total of 39 distinct assistive robotic systems were recognized, with 55% undergoing testing and 29% in the development stage. These systems span six primary fields of application: processing information and patient data, aiding in daily activities, performing fetching and carrying tasks, enabling telepresence and communication, facilitating monitoring, safety, and navigation, and providing support through complex assistance systems (Ohneberg et al., 2023). As our research will primarily be focused on mobility assistive robotics, it was essential to understand the issues that lie within this field currently. Healthcare robotics harbors the potential to reshape how older adults engage with their health. Yet, significant obstacles such as clinical efficacy, technology acceptance, health data management, and healthcare policies and ethical standards lie ahead. Addressing these challenges across all levels of the healthcare framework is crucial to ensure that healthcare robotics facilitate healthy aging and are deployed safely, efficiently, and dependably (Mois and Beer, 2020).

Best,

Vinyls I've been listening to since we listened to Dvorak in my MHL 155 class.
